Wahkiakum County Eagle-January 1996 Mary Leona (Lund) Quarles Age 87, died at Seaside, Ore. She was born at Skamokawa, the daughter of Charles and Mary Agnes (Gorman) Lund. She graduated from Cathlamet High school in 1925. On Sep. 27, 1925 she married Ford L. Quarles and they lived in Grays River, Yakima, Prosser and Toppenish. In 1936 they moved to Cathlamet and started he Red and White grocery which they sold in 1947. In 1949 they moved to Seaside where they purchased the Edgewood apartments. They opened Fords Sundre in Youngs Bay and operated a Marshall Wells hardware store in Warrenton, Ore. until 1953. With Ruby Reiser as a partner she operated the R & L Malt shop on the Seaside prom. She operated the Minute Burger for four years and worked at the Fun Zone Arcade. She was a charter member of the Seaside Elks BPOE Emblem club, holding various offices including that of president. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son Dick. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Wood of Seaside; a daughter-in-law Marge Quarles of Cannon Beach, Ore.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were Thursday at Hughes-Ransom Seaside Chapel.
