Wahkiakum County Eagle-October 1996 Leslie O. Prestegard Age 65, a resident of Hoquiam for the past 26 years, died at his home. He was born in Puget Island to Archie and Ethel (Nepsund) Prestegard. He attended school in Puget Island and graduated from high school at Cathlamet. He served with the Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953, during which time he met and married Mildred Darlene Hard on Mar. 20, 1951, in Puget Island. She died earlier this year. He worked for the Federal Aviation Adm. upon his exit from the Coast Guard. His job took him to Alaska, California, Arizona, Oklahoma and eventually Washington. He worked at the Hoquiam Airport as station chief from 1971 to 1983. He was recently working at the airport doing weather reports for aviation and television. He loved to play and go fishing with his grandchildren, as well as working on and building electronic projects. He was a member of the Hoquiam Elks and Hoquiam Eagles. Survivors include a son, Michael of Redmond; two daughters, Patsy Wilder of Olympia and Beth Beachamp of Laramie, Wyo.; a brother, Ray "Teed" of Cathlamet; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
