8 The Wahkiakum County Eagle July 3, 2003 KENNETH G. PRESTEGARD Kenneth G. Prestegard, 87, died June 26, 2003 at his Cathlamet home. He was born February 5, 1916 at Bangor, the son of Ole and Helga (Lind) Prestegard and moved at the age of two. He attended grade school at Wahkiakum High School in Cathlamet. January 23, 1937 he married Thelma Jacobsen. Kenny was a commercial fisher on the Columbia River, Puget Sound, Willapa Bay, Kodiak, Bristol Bay and Cooks Inlet. He also built his own gillnet boat. He was a carpenter and built many homes in Cathlamet area including the one he and his wife lived in for 40 years. He fished Bristol Bay from 1936-1980. He retired from work at the age of 65 in 1981. Mr. Prestegard was a life member of Longview Elks Lodge, Carpenters Union, Sons of Norway, Longview Eagles Lodge, Longview Moose Lodge, Columbia River Fishermans Protective Union, and Salmon For All. He enjoyed sports fishing, traveling, boating, gardening and reading. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Rodney Prestegard and Greg Prestegard, both of Puget Island; two daughters, Darlene Sellards of Centralia and Loretta Chevalier of Puget Island; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren. A celebration of live service was held Monday at Dowling Funeral Home with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
