Unknown County Newspaper-April 1943 J. B. Polwarth, 1st Wahkiakum Prosecutor, Dies Cathlamet, April 16-John Bruce Polwarth, 80, a resident of Cathlamet for 72 years and Wahkiakum County’s first prosecuting attorney, died at the family home here early Friday morning. He had been ill a short time. Polwarth, who was born at San Francisco on February 27, 1863, came to this community at the age of eight years. He entered law practice as a young man and was name the first prosecuting attorney of the county when Washington entered statehood. He continue his practice here until 1914, when he moved to Portland, where he remained until 1932. At that time he returned to Cathlamet. He was again elected prosecutor in 1938 and retired from office in January, when he was succeeded by G. Henry Hanigan. Polwarth was an authority on early history of the county and collected a large number of relics and curios, which he recently presented to the Rosburg school. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Irene F. Polwarth; two daughters, Mrs. C. D. Chandler of Los Angeles and Mrs. W. J. Sutton of Seattle, and one son, Lieut. J. Bruce Polwarth, Jr., at Fort Lewis; and three grandchildren. He was a member of the Masons. The Ditlevsen Funeral Home at Kelso is in charge of arrangements, which have not been completed.
