The Wahkiakum County Eagle October 18, 2001 OBITUARIES Duane Ostling – Duane "Pinky" Ostling, 55, died Sunday October 14, 2001, at Cathlamet. He was born November 9, 1945 at Longview, the son of Anton and Bernice Smith Ostling. He was a lifelong resident of the Puget Island and Cathlamet areas. He married Sherry Emery in Skamokawa May 16, 1970. He was a commercial fisherman from age 13, fishing in Bristol Bay, Kodiak and Cook Inlet in Alaska and Willapa Bay and the Columbia River. He was a member of Salmon for All, Columbia River Fishermens Protective Union, AIFMA, Cathlamet Men's Poker Club and Northwest Gillnetters. Personal interests included sports fishing, hunting, trapshooting, Reno trips and playing cards. Survivors include his wife at home; sons Terry Ray Ostling and Jeff Ostling, both of Cathlamet; a daughter Tracy Lynn Ostling of Cathlamet; a brother Donald and his wife Barbara Ostling of Kenai, Alaska; brotheres-in-law Gary Emery of Kelso and Jonnie Ray Anderson of Puget Island; two sisters Judy Ostling of Puget Island and Toni Sue Ostling of Skamokawa; his father Anton Ostling of Puget Island; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Claude and Jackie Russell both of Cathlamet; and two nieces. Memorial services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at the J.A. Wendt Elementary School. The Reverand Irene Martin will officiate. Interment will be at Fern Hill Cemetery in Skamokawa. Memorials to the Cathlamet First Aid Division are suggested. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
