From: Greg & Kari Kandoll Date: 08/28/05 00:27:34 The Wahkiakum County Eagle July 3, 2003 ANTON JOHN OSTLING Anton "Tony" John Ostling, 85, of Puget Island, died June 26, 2003 at the Longview Hospice. He was born in Astoria on October 13, 1917, to Gustaf and Mathilda (Svenson) Ostling and came to Puget Island with his family in 1920. Mr. Ostling attended school on Puget Island and in Cathlamet. Hemarried Bernice Smith in 1943 in Vancouver. He was a commercial fisherman for over 50 years, fishing the Columbia River, and Cook's Inlet and Kenai Peninsula, in Alaska. He retired in 1972. He enjoyed hunting and visiting with friends and loved his cats Mochaand Torque. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Barbara Ostlingof Kenai, Alaska, Judy Ostling and Toni Sue Ostling, both of PugetIsland; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Ostling of Cathlamet; very special friend Ryna Stornetta of Cathlamet; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, Duane "Pinky" Ostling, a step-son James Smith, three brothers, Elmer, Gus, and infant brother, and an infant sister. A memorial service is pending, following the return of family from Alaska. Memorial contributions to Cathlamet First Aide Division or Community Hospice in Longview are suggested. Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet is in charge of arrangements.
