Grays River Builder-January 2, 1941 Grays River, Washington Mrs. Anna Oman Dies at Ilwaco Mrs. Margaret Anna Oman, 88, a resident of the Lower Columbia river district for more than 60 years died Saturday in Ilwaco after a short illness. She was suffering with a severe cold, which added to a heart condition, was more than the strength of her advanced age could stand. She had been in the hospital only a day before her death. Born in Kemijarvi, Finland, Mrs. Oman came as a young women to the United States, moving directly to Astoria. Here she worked for several years as a maid in the homes of some of the better known Astoria residents. In August 1887, she was marred to Oscar Oman and for three or four years the couple operated a boarding house in that part of Astoria known as Uppertown. In 1891 they moved to Naselle where they located on a farm. About eight years ago Mr. Oman died. Survivors are four sons: Fred V., William, of Ilwaco, Heinie, of South Bend, and Frank H., of Portland; four daughters: Mrs. Arthur (Bessie) Anderson and Mrs. Sevri (Anna) Wiitala, both of Naselle, Mrs. Price (Winifred) Hall, South Bend, and Mrs. D. C. (Ida) Eager, Chinook; 29 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and a sister and more distant relatives living in Finland. Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Naselle Congregational church, of which Mrs. Oman was a member, with the pastor, Rev. Ellis Koven, officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Peaceful Hill Cemetery, Naselle. Services were under the direction of Ginn's Funeral Home. (From Astorian Budget.)
