Wahkiakum County Eagle-August 1996 DeVere H. Miller Age 90, of Cathlamet, died in a Cathlamet nursing home. He was born in Scappoose, Ore., to Howard and Ellen (Knigfong) Miller. He attended school in Scappoose and in 1921 went to work on the logging railroad there. In 1930, he moved to Cathlamet and began working for Crown Zellerbach, serving as a head brakeman until 1958 when he went to work at the sorting yard. He enjoyed working at Crown Zellerbach until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of International Woodworkers of America. Survivors include three daughters, Corrine Miller of Issaquah, Frances Joseph of Steilacoom, and Mylou Simmons of Puget Island; three sons, Calvin Miller of Emaus, Penn., Art Multhaupt of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Eddie Olsen of Longview; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his second wife, Orva, in 1959 and by his third wife, Bobbie, in 1994 after 25 years of marriage. Funeral services were Wednesday at Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet with Rev. Joan Ham officiating.
