Columbia River Sun-April 11, 1918 Vol. XVII. No. 4-Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, Washington-Page 1 Logger Accidentally Killed Joe Migneault, a timber faller, employed by the Alger Logging company at Skamokawa, was killed Wednesday afternoon, April 3rd, while in the act of felling a tree. He and his felling mate had cut a tree and as it started to fall a strong gust of wind struck it and veered its course several feet. He attempted to get to a place of safety, but the tree fell on a side hill above him and as it rolled down the hill overtook the unfortunate man before he could get out of its way, crushing him and causing instant death. He had worked only a few days before the accident. He was a native of Canada, 56 years of age, and leaves a widow and 13 children who reside at Lambert, Montana. The body was left in charge of E. B. Hughes, the Astoria undertaker, and was shipped to Montana for internment. (As transcribed by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society 2005 from original newspaper collection.)
