Wahkiakum County Eagle-July 1996 Paul Eugene Meyer Age 77, of Skamokawa, died in a Portland hospital. He was born in New Plymouth, Idaho, to Ernst and Florence (Ackerman) Meyer, and grew up on a farm. He and his wife, Iva were married July 7, 1940, in New Plymouth, and lived in Idaho until 1968, when they moved to Bakersfield, Calif. They came to Skamokawa 15 years ago. While in Idaho, he worked on a ranch. In Bakersfield, he was a mechanic on oil rigs for more than 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, tinkering, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Iva, at home; four daughters, Virginia Brown of Kent, Doris Muller of Parma, Idaho, Dorothy Brown of Longview and Florence Caldwell of Port Orchard; five sons, Francis and Robert of Skamokawa, Bernard of Meridian, Idaho, Danny of Bakersfield, Clifford of Maricopa, Calif, and Ernst of Longview; two sisters, Evelyn Larson and Betty Ballzor of Boise; 37 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Meyer, Edna Brockman and Ruth Whitney; and two brothers, Phillip and Art Meyer. Services were Tuesday at Dowling Funeral Home, Cathlamet.
