Wahkiakum County Eagle-December 1995 MATTA, Helen Elizabeth Lifelong Naselle-area resident, died at a Long Beach nursing home. She was born in Knappton, Wash., to John and Hilma (Rauma) Carlson. The family later moved to Naselle, where she grew up and received her education. Mrs. Matta was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, cats and African violets. She also enjoyed time with friends and family and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary. He husband, Charles Matta, died in 1970. Survivors include a son, Herbert Matta of Portland; two daughters, Mary Hickson of Delaware, Ohio, and Alice Wirkkala of Naselle; a sister, Vera Carlson of Portland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Benjamin and Arthur, four brothers, and two sisters. Private family services were held at Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach.
