Wahkiakum Eagle-January 1997 MASON, Merton P. Age 76, of Roseville, Calif., died in a Roseville hospital. He was born in Cathlamet, to John B. and Alice (Scarborough) Mason, and grew up in Cathlamet. Later he lived in the Portland area for several years, where he worked for the railroad. After moving to California, he taught dancing in the San Francisco area for a number of years and also was a private music teacher. While living in Roseville, he volunteered for the Mida Indian Center, where he played music and helped in the nutrition center. He also played piano for the Salvation Army in Roseville. Surviving him are a niece, Peggy Johnson of Bremerton; four nephews, Gary L. Ayers of Palmdale, Calif., Wayne D. Navolt of Roseville, Denzil H. Navolt of Little Rock, Ark., and Thayer D. Turner of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Mason Turner, in 1989; and five brothers, Denny Baldridge, Jim Mason, Sam Mason, Johnny Mason and Jack Mason. Funeral services were held Thursday at Dowling Funeral Chapel in Cathlamet with Rev. Joan Ham officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
