Wahkiakum Eagle-May 1980 MARKLAND, Simon Age 87, of Portland, died at home. He was born in Lulea, Sweden, and came to the United States in 1908 and to Grays River in 1912. He owned and operated a farm from 1926 until his retirement in 1974, and logged as well. He was a member of the Pentalpha Masonic Lodge, Kelso Scottish Rite and Grays River Grange, a 50-year member of the Washington State Grange, past director of the Lower Columbia Dairymen's Association and past director of the Western Wahkiakum Telephone Co. He is survived by two daughters, Edith Taft of Portland and Velma Smith of Salt Lake City; a son, Glenn of Seattle; four half-sisters and a half-brother, al in Sweden; six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Private graveside services were Saturday at the cemetery with Rev. Gordon Myrah officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
