Columbia River Sun- Jan. 11, 1912 Cathlamet, WA MAHER, William J. Chief Engineer of O. W. R. & N Steamer, Harvest Queen, died very suddenly from heart failure Monday as the steamer was en route down the river from Portland. Mr. Maher was apparently in his accustomed good health and was on watch in the engine room up to midnight. Just 30 minutes later while talking with some of the other officers he sank to the floor and expired almost immediately. Mr. Maher was about 65 years of age, had been in the employ of the company fully 35 years and was one of the best known shipping men on the river.
