Astoria Newspaper-August 1988 John J. Luoto Retired dairyman, millworker, 83 John J. “Jack” Luoto of Westport died Thursday, Aug. 25, in Longview, Wash. He was 83. Mr. Luoto was born April 1, 1905, in Grays River, Wash., the son of John and Matilda Luoto. He moved with his family to the Astoria area as a young boy and attended school in Westport. He married Martha J. Tolva on Aug. 17, 1925 in Chehalis, Wash. She survives. Mr. Luoto was a retired dairyman and millworker. He was a member of the Clatskanie Lodge 133, A.F. & A.M. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert Luoto, Carlton; three brothers, Einar Luoto, Seaside, Jalmer “Ed” Luoto, Corvallis, and Adam Luoto, Longview; one sister, Millie Verment, Seattle; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Haakinson-Grouix Mortuary in Clatskanie, with interment following in the Westport Cemetery.
