He was of a kindly disposition and made many friends. Hospitality was the motto of both himself and Mrs. Lund, and their friends are scattered all along this river. Mr. Lund was one of the first to subscribe for The Eagle over 15 years ago and he remained our friend to the last. We know what it was to enjoy the hospitality of his home and our acquaintance was always most pleasant. Mr. Lund lived to a good old age. He was a good citizen, neighbor and friend and now that he has departed his memory will be kept green by the many friends he made during his lifetime. Mr. Lund was born in Sunewall, Sweden, October 19th, 1823. He died at his home in the Middle Valley, Monday, January 28th, 1907. When only 19 years of age he left his native land and came to California. He was captain of a schooner sailing out of San Francisco for many years, but finally sold out his partnership in the vessel and came to Astoria, where he drove a dray for Captain Flavel for two years. From Astoria he went to Westport, Or., where he married Mrs. Mary Albertina Orman, and from Westport he moved to Skamokawa where he took up a homestead on which he resided up to the day of his death. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lund of who six are now living, they are Albert, William, Edward and Alfred, now at Vancouver, B.C., Mrs. James Taylor, of Deep River, and Charles of Skamokawa. He also leaves a wife and one sister to mourn his departure. Mr. Lund was a loving father and a kind husband and he will be greatly missed from the family circle. His funeral took place at his old home, Rev. Ross J. Ferguson conducting the service. He was interred in Fern Hill cemetery. There was a large number of old friends present.
