Unknown Publication-August 1987 John E. Laine Sept. 17, 1914-Aug. 12, 1987 John E. Laine, a former Astoria resident who had lived in Aberdeen, Wash., for the past 36 years, died Wednesday in Aberdeen. He was 72. Mr. Laine was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Brownsmead. He had worked as a commercial fisherman on the Oregon and Washington coasts. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a life member of the Astoria Eagles. On April 14, 1952, he married Ailene Kangas in Seattle. She survives. Also surviving are a brother, Aino Laine, Deep River, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Ward, White Salmon, Wash.; four step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two nephews, Stephen Laine, Raymond, Wash., and Clifford Laine, Astoria; and a niece, Carol Ervest, Deep River, Wash. At Mr. Laine's request there will be no funeral. Arrangements were in care of Whitside Chapel in Aberdeen.
