Wahkiakum Eagle-January 1996 Anna Marie Koontz Age 86, died in Aberdeen. She was born in Dahlia, a Wahkiakum county fishing village, to Charles and Anna Marie Elliott. She attended school in Eugene, Ore., where she graduated from high school and went into nursing at the Multnomah hospital in Portland. She married Paul E. Koontz on March 30, 1930 in Portland. The depression drove the family back to Dahlia where she worked for the New England Fish company. The family later moved to Tahola where she was active in many public works including the Democratic party where she worked with the late Julia Butler Hansen. She worked diligently for the Quinault Nation as tribal judge. She traveled extensively and was vice chairman for the National Congress of American Indians. Survivors include sons, Paul of Snohomish, Fredrick of Aberdeen and Justin James of Taholah; daughter, Marianne Koontz of Taholah; sister Frances Schol of Taholah; seven grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday from the Coleman Chapel in Hoquiam.
