The Wahkiakum County Eagle – November 29, 1907 Dale W. Kilponen Dale Waino Kilponen, 59, of Salmon Creek died in Longview on November 26, 2007. He was born on July 23, 1948 to Waino and Nellie (Penttila) Kilponen in Longview and grew up in Salmon Creek, graduating from Naselle High School. He was drafted into the U.S Army in 1968 and served for two years with the 11th Battalion of the 24th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Following his service he worked as a logger, a security guard and a forest crew supervisor for the Department of Natural Resources. He retired in January, 2007. He married Joyce Anderson on February 17, 1973. She survives him. He is also survived by his daughters Sheila Kilponen of Cannon Beach, Ore. and Karen Kilponen of Vancouver; sister Anita Raistakka of Naselle and other members of his extended family. A funeral will be held November 30 at 11 a.m. at the Naselle Lutheran Church followed by a graveside service at Salmon Creek Cemetery.
