Wahkiakum County Eagle-May 22, 1995 Kapron, John Lifelong local resident John Kapron, 72, Grays River, died May 19, 1995, in a Cathlamet nursing home. He was born May 1, 1923, in Grays River, to Mike and Stella (Cook) Kapron. He served in the Navy during WWII for four years. Mr. Kapron’s work, which he enjoyed, was building logging roads on a hugh Caterpillar tractor (he was a ‘cat skinner’) for Crown Zellerbach for many years, and more recently, for DeBriae Logging for many years. His favorite hobby was his draft horses, with which he gave local families wagon rides. He was a member of Grays River Grange, Longview Eagles, Deep River Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Deep River American Legion. He and Darlene Kimball were married Sept. 27, 1947. She survives him at home. Also surviving are four daughters, Yvonne Metcalf of Winlock, Becky Erickson of Rosburg, Marlys Metcalf of Naselle and Tina Hall of Vancouver; a son, Clark Kapron of Cathlamet; a sister, Helen Walker of Vancouver; 14 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geri, and a brother, Harry Kapron. The graveside service was held Thursday at Grays River Cemetery with Rick Ballif officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
