The Longview Daily News-August 21, 2007 Longview, WA Oliver William Kaipi, 92, of Longview passed away Aug. 11, 2007, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born April 7, 1915, in Stockett, Mont., to August and Rose (Siilanpaa) Kaipi and moved to Mullan, Idaho in 1917. From 1931 to 1948 he lived in Cathlamet, moving to Longview in 1948. Mr. Kaipi was a 1932 graduate of Wahkiakum High School and a 1948 graduate of the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. He served as a pharmacist's mate in the Navy during World War II. He worked at the Hatton Funeral Home in Cathlamet from 1937 to 1948, and the Ditlevsen-Moore Funeral Home in Kelso from 1948 to 1950. He co-owned K&M Bowling Alley for many years. From 1948 until his death, he was a leading agent for the Purple Cross Insurance Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peg Kaipi, in 1987; a sister, Helvie Sinnemaki, in 2006; and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Lukken, in 1993. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sue Kaipi of Longview; two grandchildren and their spouses, David and Kim Kaipi of Seattle and Laurie and Troy Lukken of Kelso; and two great-granddaughters, Madison and Laurel Lukken. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Kelso Elks Lodge. Private mausoleum entombment has taken place at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet.
