Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-Jul 1996 Betty Marie Johnson Age 68, died at her home in Cathlamet. She was born in Astoria, to Oscar and Kathryn (Tannock) Jacobson, and was a lifelong resident of the Cathlamet area, graduating from Wahkiakum High School in 1946. She and her husband, Jerry, were married in 1947 in the Pioneer Church of Cathlamet. Her husband's construction business took the couple throughout the Northwest, where they made short-term homes in many area for 30 years. In 1990 they retired to Cathlamet. The Johnsons spent nine years building their sailboat, the Blew J, which they launched in the mid-1980's. Memberships included the United Church of Christ in Cathlamet, where she sang in the choir and served on the council, and the Lettie Warren Guild. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching and knitting. Her husband died 03 Aug 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Toni Johnson of Sunnyside, CA.; a son, K. C. Johnson of Cathlamet; her mother, Kathryn Jacobson of Cathlamet; a sister, Sandi Starr of Puyallup; a brother, Vernon Jacobson of Winlock; six grand- children; one great-grandchild; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Services were Wednesday at the United Church of Christ of Cathlamet with Rev. Joan Ham officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
