Wahkiakum Eagle-December 1998 Vivian Jaspers Age 96, died at her Ocean Park residence. She was the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Francis) Miller. She was born in Hillsboro, Ore. When she was 13 she moved with her parents to Clatskanie, Ore. where her parents farmed and she graduated from Clatskanie High School. In 1923 she married Earl Albert Baumgardner. The couple settled in Linnton, Ore. and in 1928 moved to Astoria where he was a tug boat captain. Following his death in 1942 she continued living in Astoria where she was a homemaker, drove school bus and took in boarders. In 1957 she married Peter Jaspers and they settled on Puget Island. He died in 1980 and in 1986 Vivian moved to the Long Beach Peninsula to be near family. She was a former member of the Congregational Church of Cathlamet and attended Seaview Baptist Church on the Peninsula. For many years she was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star in the communities in which she lived and was a Past Worthy Matron. While living in Astoria she was active in Girl Scouts and was a Grange member in Cathlamet. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and staying active with her lodges and with community events. She is survived by a daughter, Doris Miller of Long Beach; a son, Ted Baumgardner of Canby, Ore.; step-daughter, Helen Abbott of Yoncolla, Ore.; step-son, Floyd Jaspers of Portland; a sister, Melba Sisco of Kelso; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several step- grandchildren. Memorial services were held Saturday at Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach.
