Jacobsen, 35, of 1725 Florida St., Longview, was killed instantly Tuesday afternoon when he was hit in the head by a falling hammer while guiding pilling into a lead. Jacobsen was employed as a leadsman in a pile driving crew for the Hart Construction Co. and was working at the Weyerhaeuser Co. pulp division site when the mishap occurred. The workman was unable to get out of the way when the ‘dog’ apparently slipped from the hammer drum, E. M. Kirkness, safety inspector for the Department of Labor and Industries, explained. Jacobsen was rushed by ambulance to St. John’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to Coroner Glenn York. Jacobsen was born March 26, 1925 on Puget Island and worked annually as a commercial Fisherman’s Union, Longview Elks and First Lutheran Church on Puget Island. Survivors include the wife, Roseanne; a daughter, Marcia; his mother, Mrs. Ragna Jacobsen of Puget Island; three brothers, Alf of Cathlamet, Raymond of Pullman, and Bjarne of Cordova, Alaska; two sisters, Marie Nelson of Vancouver and Clara Jacobsen of Buckley. Funeral services were held Saturday at Ditlevsen-Moore Chapel with Rev. Elmer Strand officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet.
