Wahkiakum Eagle-March 1977 IRVING, James Russell Age 84, of Cathlamet, died Monday in a Longview hospital. He was born in the Elochoman valley and had lived in this area all his life. His parents were pioneers of Wahkiakum county. His father, Thomas A. Irving, served as state representative and his mother, Mary Theresa Irving, was one of the first territorial school superintendents. A retired farmer, he had been a member of the Elochoman Grange for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, at home; a daughter, Yvonne of California; two sons, Don of Vancouver and Tom of Puget Island. He had 13 living grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Dorothy Root, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Dowling Funeral Home with Rev. Everett Groves officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
