Wahkiakum Eagle-March 1981 IRVING, Gertrude Florence Age 86, a Cathlamet resident since 1906, died at her son's home in Brush Prairie, Wa. She was born in Ridgefield, Wa. and had been a homemaker. Also she had been a teacher and postal clerk in the area. She married Russell Irving on May 23 1917 and for many years they operated a dairy farm in the Elochoman Valley. He preceded her in death in 1977 as did their daughter, Dorothy Root of Castle Rock in 1968. She was a member of the Cathlamet Congregational Church, Elochoman Grange No. 426, Wahkiakum Pomona Grange No. 26 and the Pioneer Church Association of Cathlamet. Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Irving of Oakland, Calif.; two sons, Donald R. of Brush Prairie and Thomas W. of Puget Island; a brother, Cletis Gell of McMinnville, Ore.; nephews, Orley Higdon of Vancouver and Jack Gell of Bellevue; a niece, Harriette Cartozian of Eugene, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Services were Wednesday at the Dowling Funeral Home with Rev. Everett Groves officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge.
