The Columbia River Sun-December 23, 1915 Cathlamet, Washington Mrs. Illsley Dies Mrs. Caroline Illsley a sister of A. D. Birnie of Cathlamet, passed away Wednesday for????? From senile debility. Mrs. Illsley, formerly Caroline Birnie, was born May 8th, 1845 at Fort George, now the city of Astoria, in Oregon. James Birnie, her father, was stationed at the fort and had charge at that time. In the early fifties, she with her parents moved to the James Birnie donation land claim, which is now partly covered by the town of Cathlamet. She lated moved to Portland and made her residence there for many years. For the last few months she resided at Cathlamet with her brother, A. D. Birnie. She is survived by her son, Captain Ben. Dorcy, of the U.S. Army, stationed at St. Louis, Mo. and five grandchildren; also by three sisters, Mrs. Frank Charles, Mrs. Work of Victoria, B. C., and Mrs. Victoria Andrews of Cathlamet, and one brother Alexander D. Birnie of Cathlamet. She was a member of the Episcopal church of Portland.
