Wahkiakum Eagle-September 1981 HUGHES, Robert Garfield Age 73, owner of the Hughes Hardware store for 28 years in Cathlamet, died in a Bellevue hospital. Most recently of Redmond, he was also a retired real estate broker. He belonged to the Cathlamet Lodge 276 F and A M and the Shrine Temple AFIFI, Tacoma. In Cathlamet he served as Boy Scout leader for many years. He also helped establish the Wahkiakum County Museum. He attended the University of Washington and Washington State University. He was a fencing instructor at UW in 1930. Survivors include his wife, Vivian, of Redmond; a daughter, Caroline Carpita of Bellevue; a son-in-law, Robert Campbell of Bellevue; and eight grandchildren. A daughter, Barbara Campbell died earlier. Services were Tuesday in Green's Funeral Home, Bellevue.
