The Eagle-Cathlamet, Wahkiakum, WA-December 27, 1945- Front Page “Dad” Hollar Dies At Arlington, VA. “Dad” Hollar, as he was affectionately known to many residents of this community, died in his sleep on Christmas night at Arlington, Virginia. According to reports made to the family, he was apparently in his usual good health on Christmas Day, but when called the following morning was found dead in his bed. Ira S. Hollar was born near Crawfordsville, Indiana, May 10, 1875. When a lad of twelve, he moved to Bethany, Missouri, with his family. He was married to Nora Seaburn, a schoolmate, Oct. 2, 1895. His wife preceded him in death a little over two years ago. Surviving him are a daughter, Mrs. Fred Martin of Cathlamet; two sons, Marvyn of Pearlsburg, Va., and George of Cathlamet, and seven grandchildren. Interment will be at Shawnee, Oklahoma, beside his wife and infant son. Mr. Hollar came to Cathlamet Jan. 1, 1924. With his son, George, he operated a retail dairy for many years, until it was necessary for him to retire about five years ago. “Dad” or “Grandpa”, as he was known to the younger folk of the community, loved children and was delighted when he could do something for them or give them some little treat to make them happy.
