Columbia River Sun-Cathlamet, Wash.-April 29, 1920 HERON, John Wesley The Grim Reaper visited Cathlamet last Friday night and took from our midst, one of our most beloved citizens, Mr. John W. Heron. He had been ill a month or so but his condition was not considered serious and even on the day of his death he was about the streets. The deceased was born in the state of Michigan 60 years ago and came west in 1889 and was for some time Town Marshall of Montesano, Wash. He later moved to Skamokawa where he married Miss Lulu Bailey in 1890. He was well known on the lower river having lived at Altoona, Astoria and several other places in this vicinity. He has been a resident of Cathlamet for a great many years and has always taken an active part in the affairs of the city. He was Mayor for two years and on the council several years. Besides his widow, the deceased leaves two daughters, Mrs. Harold Bradley and Miss Frances Heron and a multitude of sorrowing friends. A large crowd attended the funeral services which were held at the family residence, Monday afternoon, and accompanied the remains to the last resting place in the Skamokawa Cemetery.
