The Daily Astorian-August 1985 Milton G. Herold Oct. 30, 1908-Aug. 7, 1985 Milton G. Herold, 76, Astoria, died Wednesday in Astoria. Mr. Herold was born October 30, 1908, in Marcola, the son of Richard and Mary Bromley Beebe Herold. The family honesteaded in the Peter Zink area then moved to Bend where Mr. Herold attended school. He worked in Vernonia in a mill until it closed, then was with the Civilian Cconservation Corps at Camp Boyington and with Tidwater Logging Co. during the Depression. During the construction of the South Jetty, he operated a cherry-picker. Mr. Herold served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the ware h worked as a carpenter for several years, then was a longshoreman until his retirement in 1971. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 371 and International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union Pensioners Local 50. On December 13, 1941, he married Mabel Kandoll in Astoria. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, William Herold, Portland, James Herold, Roseburg, and Robert Herold, Astoria; a daughter Joyce Fisher, Wenatchee, Wash.; his mother, Mary Herold, Mead, Wash.; a brother, Fred Herold, Warrenton, a sister, Mabel Simonds, Wenatchee, Wash., and five grandchildren. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, Astoria. Memorial contributes may be to the Oregon Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
