Skamokawa Eagle-September 3, 1903 Skamokawa, Wahkiakum County, Washington Elliott Henry Killed The death of little Elliott Henry, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Henry of Elliott’s Landing, is a dreadful blow to his parents and family. A bright, active, manly little lad of 12 years, large for his age, strong as a man at some kinds of work, he entered into his father’s business with a spirit rarely seen in boys many years older, and made for himself many friends amongst his associates. Last Thursday he went over to Woody Island flats in the afternoon duck hunting. Henry White, an old friend of the family, was also over there hunting, but was some distance away from the boy, when he heard the report of his gun and Elliott calling him. He made his way as quickly as possible to the little fellow and was horrified to find that Elliott in taking his gun from the boat, had discharged it and the contents of both barrels had entered his abdomen wounding him terribly. The lad was brave and steady, however, and Mr. White took him in his own boat and started across the river for Charleston. But the river was rough and the passage across a long one, and the lad died on the way over. Mr. White thinks he must have lived an hour after the accident, during which time not a complaint left his lips. He was buried Saturday in the family lot on the Elliott homestead. There was a large number of relatives and friends present and the casket and grave were covered with beautiful flowers.
