Daily News-Friday, June 11, 2010 8:42 am C. Fred Heim C. Fred Heim, 107, of Myrtle Point, Ore., died June 8, 2010, in Coquille, Ore. He was born Dec. 18, 1902, in Wilderswil, Switzerland, to Fred and Madelina Heim. He came to America in March of 1923 and worked in the dairy business until 1955. Fred married Rena Mae Howard Feb. 26, 1931. They owned and operated the Eufaula Grocery Store in Longview from 1955 to 1962. Fred was also a substitute rural mail carrier in Longview from 1955 to 1966. From 1966 to 1969, he and Rena ran a dairy farm in Cathlamet. They retired in Bunker Hill until 1990 when they moved to Myrtle Point. Fred was a member of the Portland Swiss Association, attending meetings and functions since his arrival in the U.S. He is survived by his children and their spouses Madeline Smeltzer of Baker city, Ore.; Lawrence and Patricia Heim of Tigard, Ore., Andrew and Shirley Heim of Myrtle Point, Elizabeth and Jim Enbusk of Longview, and John Heim of North Bend, Ore.; a son-in-law, Elmer Gaddis; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Mae; a son, Fredrick Heim; and a daughter, Gloria Gaddis. A graveside service will beheld at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Longview. Arrangements are under the direction of Amling Schroeder Funeral Service, Myrtle Point.
