Wahkiakum Eagle-January 2001 HEGSTAD, Richard Lewis Age 69, died at his Longview home. He was born in Wauna, Ore., to Rudolph L. and Irene L. (Lynch) Hegstad. He lived in Longview for 50 years, coming from Wahkiakum county. He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1949 and later attended Lower Columbia College in Longview. On October 1, 1950, he married Goldie Ostling on Puget Island. He worked at Weyerhaeuser Wood Products Planning Mill for 43 years. He was a member of the Kelso-Longview 7th Day Adventist Church and the Lower Columbia College Choir. He loved music, singing in the church choir, a Barber Shop Quartet and the Lower Columbia College Choir. He enjoyed sports and was an avid racquetball player. Survivors include his wife, Goldie at home; sons, Richard S. of Littleton, Colo., Jay D. and Chuck D., both of Longview; half-brother, John S.; half-sisters, Diana Hegstad, Lily Hegstad and Jackie Manseau; six grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy 'Sunny' Hegstad and a sister, Wanda. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday at the Kelso-Longview Seventh Day Adventist Church. Dowling Funeral Home of Cathlamet was in charge.
