Wahkiakum County Eagle-February 1996 Clarence Adolph Hedlund Lifelong Rosburg-Deep River resident, age 81, died in a Long Beach care center. He was born in Astoria, to Adolph and Mary (Heldt) Hedlund, and weighed only 3 pounds at birth. The family lived in the Rosburg-Deep River area of Wahkiakum county, and he attended school at Seal River. He married Glenrose Lindgren on Feb. 23, 1940 in Deep River. He worked for the Wahkiakum County Road Dept. for 20 years, ran the loading donkey for Grays River Logging, rafted logs for Peters & McKinnon and later was a custodian and bus driver for the Naselle- Grays River School District, retiring in 1975 after 20 years. He also was a self-employed sinker-picker retrieving sunken logs from area rivers. He was a member of the Grays River Grange and was active in the perpetual care of Rosburg Cemetery. He was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed fishing, smoking fish and woodworking. He was close to his family and had many life-long friends. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Glenrose, at home; two daughters, Diane Kogut of Vancouver and Elaine Wilbanks of Longview; a son, Dennis Hedlund of Portland; seven grandchildren; two great-grand- children; a niece; and a nephew. A sister, Martha Bailey, died in July 1994. Funeral services were Monday at the Grays River Methodist church. Arrangements were by Penttila Chapel by the Sea in Long Beach.
