Wahkiakum County Eagle-May 1995 Haugen, Edith M. Edith M. Haugen, 91, of Cathlamet, died May 5, 1995, in a Cathlamet nursing home. She was born Feb. 22, 1904, in Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Mathew R. and Mary M. Bailey Weisser. She attended Bellingham College in South Dakota and then taught school in North and South Dakota before coming to Puget Island in 1945. She taught at the island school for several years and also for many years at Grays River, Altoona and Mayger. For a few years in the late 1940’s, she taught near Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. She retired from the Grays River school in 1969. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Sons of Norway, RSVP, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Puget Island, Ladies Aid, the Last Tuesday Club and the Community Club. She loved spending time helping the elderly get around and made lap robes for nursing homes and day care. She loved to sew. She is survived by three daughters, Helen Ohrberg of Cathlamet, May L. Cole of Salem and Florence I. Lloyd of Hood River, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Egil Haugen, a son, Elmer B. Haugen, one sister and two brothers. A funeral service was held Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Puget Island with interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge. Edith M.
