Published in The Daily News on 6/5/2007. Richard R. Harmon 1919 - 2007 Richard R. Harmon passed away May 29, 2007, at the age of 87 in Vancouver. He was born in Albion, Mich., on Oct. 30, 1919. He moved to Eugene in 1920 with his parents, Ray and Eva Harmon. He attended public school in Eugene, graduating in 1938. He attended the University of Oregon. Mr. Harmon was drafted into the Navy and served during World War II. After the war, he moved to Portland. He met and married Hazel Haugen in 1952. They later moved to Cathlamet in October 1956 where he started a cable and TV repair business. He became a deputy sheriff and later the Wahkiakum County sheriff until 1979. He retired and moved to Vancouver in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Harmon of Vancouver; two daughters, Linda Harmon of Gresham, Ore., and Kathy Foley (Glen Scurrah) of Battle Ground, Wash.; a son, Ronald Harmon of Kent, Wash.; four grandchildren, Marcus, Amy, Shannon and Jennifer; and five great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Alecia, Isabelle, Elijah and Alexander. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Evergreen Memorial, followed by interment at Willamette National Cemetery at 1 p.m. (As compiled by the Wahkiakum County Historical Society, June 2007.)
