Columbia River Sun-April 27, 1939 Cathlamet, WA Local Pioneer Passes at Portland Home Last Week Mrs. Ann Hansen, pioneer resident of this locality, passed away at the Emmanuel hospital in Portland early last Wednesday morning, after a short illness of pneumonia. Although Mrs. Hansen had not bee in her usual health for the past few months her death was unexpected. The deceased was born in Sweden, March 6, 1861, and came to the United Sates with her parents when 19 years old. In 1882 she was married to Christian Hansen in Minnesota and came west. The family lived near J.J. Foster farm for a short time and then went to the upper Elochoman valley, ten miles from town, where they took a homestead. Here they lived until 1892 when they moved into Cathlamet and built a home in the location now occupied by the home of Mrs. Lulu Heron. In 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Hansen and their family moved to Clatskanie where they resided until they moved to Portland a few years later. Mr. Hansen passed on 16 years ago and his widow has continued to live in Portland. Mrs. Hansen was a woman of sterling qualities, beloved by all who knew her. She was sincere, a very loving friend and neighbor, and devoted to her family and friends. Those who knew her best lover her best. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Finley Mortuary in Portland and interment was made in Rose City Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hansen is survived by three sons, Henry A., of Forest Grove, Victor and Roy, of Portland, and two daughters, the Misses Ella and Dorothy Hansen also of Portland, and four grandsons.
