Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-December 1996 Earl Jefferson Hall Age 78, died at his Altoona home. He was born in Harrisburg, Ark., the son of Joseph and Shirley (Ward) Hall. He moved to California as a youth and received his education there. He worked as a welder for Bethlehem Steel during WWII and later owned and operated a trucking company in California with his late son Erwin Hall. He lived in Fort Bragg, Calif. from 1964 until 1978 when he moved to the Kelso-Castle Rock area and to the Altoona-Rosburg area in 1983. He enjoyed retirement along the shores of the Columbia River, referring to the river as "Earl's River". He was fascinated with all aspects of the Columbia, particularly the history of the region. Family life was a great joy to him and he particularly enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He also was an avid gardener. Earl and Roberta "Bobbie" Harrell were married in 1959 in Reno, Nev. and she survives. Other survivors are a son, Allan Todd of Everett; daughters, Pennie Scott of Tucson, Ariz., Shirley Potter of Longview and Charlotte Williams of Tacoma; brother, Walter Hall of Chandler, Ariz.; sisters, Bernice Barnard of Tucson, Neoma Swinney of Odessa, Tex., and Leoda Wagner of Aptos, Calif.; six grandsons and four granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his son, Erwin James Hall in 1973. Funeral services were Thursday at Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach with Rev. Tony Stoutenburg officiating.
