Wahkiakum Eagle-June 2001 FRANCIS, Betty J. Age 80, of Cathlamet, died at an area hospice center. She was born to Howard and Elizabeth (Iler) Jeans in Long Beach, Calif. She graduated from high school in 1939 and attended Pasadena Junior College. She married Bill Francis on November 19, 1943 in Pasadena and they moved from Arizona to Cathlamet in 1990. She bred and showed Poodles, Shihtzu and Japanese Chin dogs for most of her life. She was a judge for the American Kennel Club for five years and had been in the process of writing a book about the Japanese Chin. She was a member of the American Kennel Club since 1938, and was also a member of the Japanese Chin Club of America. She loved to travel and had done so extensively. She was a musician and dancer and had enjoyed modeling. Survivors include her husband, at home; a son, Brian of Cathlamet; four daughters, Jennifer Francis of West Palm Beach, Fla., Janet Gatzke of Nahcotta, Pamela Lamm of San Diego,, Calif., and Kathleen Tharp of Huachuca City, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. No service was held. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge. Betty J.
