The Wahkiakum County Eagle - December 3, 2009 Walter Forberg Former Grays River resident Walter Forberg, 93, died Wednesday, November 25, at the home of his youngest daughter Hope and husband Loren Wolfe in Gresham, Ore. where he lived and was lovingly cared for by family during the last 10 months of his life. Walter was born July 7, 1916 in Minneapolis, MN, son of Carl and Viola (Atwood) Forberg. He graduated from Washburn HS and studied at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago. He served in the Coast Guard on the Oregon Coast, at Grand Coulee Dam, Seattle and Longview during WWII. On July 31, 1943, he married Elaine Velander in Minneapolis and they established their home in the Northwest. Walter worked for Bob Torppa on his farm, Axmaker Service Station, Appelos and Weyerhaeuser. He was founding pastor of Valley Bible Church in Rosburg. Leaving Grays River, he worked with Operation Mobilization in England, returned and served as elder of two churches plus manager of L’Abri Mission, west of Chehalis, before retiring. His life passion was love of God’s Word and being an ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ. He is survived by his children Ron Forberg of Arlington, Texas, George and Joy Kemplin of Chehalis, Allyn and Diane Forberg of Forsyth, Mont., Bill and Faith McConnell of Chehalis, Loren and Hope Wolfe of Gresham, Ore., brother Charles Forberg of Bedford Corners, N.Y., 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine in September 2005, his parents, two sisters, and one brother. Interment was Wednesday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5, 1 p.m. at Orient Drive Baptist Church, 15150 SE Orient Drive, Boring, Ore., reception following.
