Wahkiakum Eagle-May 1998 FLUCKIGER, Hilda A. (Muehlematter) Age 98, a long-time resident of Puget Island, died at a Cathlamet nursing home. She was born in Faulensee, Switzerland, to Rudalg and Rosina (Meinnen) Muehlematter. She was raised and educated in Switzerland. In 1922, she and Hans Fluckiger came to America through Ellis Island. They came to Wisconsin, where they were married Oct. 27, 1923. They then worked their way to Puget Island in 1937 and lived there ever since. They farmed on Puget Island from 1937 to 1949. She became a United States citizen in 1939. Music was her first love; she taught piano lessons to many children at her home for more than 45 years and was the organist at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Puget Island for 37 years. She was very active in the church. She also enjoyed gardening and loved to walk. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Ladies Aid. Her husband died in 1966. She was also preceded in death by a sister, a brother and twin grandsons. Survivors include two daughters, Verena Nepsund of Puget Island and Hilda Dickey of Raymond; a son, Hans of Puget Island; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Pastor Cliff Weimer officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge. Hilda A.
