Wahkiakum Eagle-April 1997 EVANS, Hellenn M. Age 73, of Cathlamet, died at the Hospice Care Center. She was born in Remer, Minn., to Samuel and Rachel (Newman) Brockway, and attended school in Minnesota. She and Cecil Evans were married in 1946, and lived in Skamokawa for more than 30 years. Her husband died in 1987, and she moved to Indian Village, a mobile home park in Cathlamet, in 1992. A cook by profession, she worked at Marie's Café in Cathlamet, the Duck Inn in Skamokawa, and Columbia View Care Center in Cathlamet. She was a member of the Skamokawa Grange and a 'birthday club.' She enjoyed her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son on December 24, 1961; a sister, Ellen Black; and two brothers, George Brockway and Gerald Brockway. Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Evans of Fayetteville, N. C.; two sons, John Evans and David Evans, both of Longview; three sisters, Violete Ihrke of Boomsville, Miss., Norma Cook of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Ardith Wicklund of Cathlamet; three brothers, Jay Brockway and Bob Brockway, both of Grand Rapids, and Don Brockway in North Dakota; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were Tuesday at Dowling Funeral Chapel with Don Sheldon officiating. Dowling Funeral Home was in charge. Hellenn M.
