The Skamokawa Eagle-09 Oct 1902 EGGMAN, Francis J. Francis J. Eggman, who has been an invalid for the past two years, and who was taken to Astoria some ten days ago, died in that city Monday evening, of Brights disease. His family was with him at the time of his death. He was brought to Skamokawa Tuesday morning and the funeral took place Wednesday afternoon from Maccabee Hall. Rev. W. M. McWatters preached the funeral sermon after which the interment took place in Fern Hill. There was a large number of old friends present and the floral tributes were many and beautiful. The pall bearers were Elias Grungstad, J. T. Lutes, F. M. Sweet, Ferguson Kennedy, Timothe Richard and Alex Moe. Francis J. Eggman was born in the State of Missouri, Feb. 12, 1837 which made him 65 years, 7 months and 24 days old. He was a boy when he crossed the plains in 1848 and settled at Howell's prairie, near Salem. He was married July 7th 1865 to Sophia Dubois in Illinois. He came to Skamokawa in January, 1881, and took up a homestead in the West valley, and has been a resident here ever since. Four children were born to them, three of whom are now living, John and Jesse Eggman of Skamokawa and Mrs. W. P. Stewart of Seattle. Mr. Eggman was a member of the Methodist church in Illinois. He was school director for several terms and took an active interest in public matters.
