The Wahkiakum County Eagle-August 19 & 26, 1971 Page 7 Victim's Body Reclaimed from River The body of Lyle Edal, 40, of Portland, was recovered by Sheriff Richard Harmon, Deputy Don Stanton and Larry Rodal Thursday in the Columbia River in the vicinity of Jim Crow Creek. Edal was reported to have left Portland August 14 in his boat, telling his wife that if he did not arrive at Skamokawa that day it would mean he had tied up because of darkness. His boat was discovered on the beach August 15 near the Skamokawa Slough entrance with the key in the ignition and the throttle at half position. The antenna was lowered but not secured and it is theorized that he may have been lowering it when he fell overboard. Ken Fernander of Vancouver reported to the Sheriff's Department Thursday afternoon that he had spotted Edal's body. Sheriff Harmon and his deputy then enlisted the aid of Rodal for the recovery.
