Unknown newspaper-December 1996 Eakin, Arthur Lewis Arthur Lewis Eakin, 61, died November 16 at home. He was born September 17, 1935, in Longview, to Arthur Lewis and Esther M. (Studebaker) Eakin and graduated from high school at Laurelwood Academy in Gaston, Ore. He later received his nursing degree from Clark College in Vancouver. Mr. Eakin was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. In his early years he worked at Boeing Aircraft Co., where he was involved with the making of the Boeing 747. He later was a registered nurse and worked in several nursing homes. He and his wife, Dian, were married in 1989 in Spokane. They lived in Spirit Lake, Idaho, for six years before moving to Cathlamet. Mr. Eakin enjoyed traveling with his wife, the outdoors, and raising Chow puppies, which he bred and showed. He was a member of the Cathlamet Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dian, at home; two daughters, Kay Fort of Springfield, Ore., and Jeanice Barthelow of Wilson Creek; four sons, Don Clayton of Yakima, David Eakin of Spokane, Arthur Leon Eakin III of Libby, Mont., and Victor Eakin of Las Vegas, Nev.; and 24 grandchildren. His sister, Eda M. Eakin died in 1938. A memorial service was held Wednesday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cathlamet with Pastor Weldon Mattison officiating.
