Wahkiakum Co. Eagle-September 02, 1971 Two Oregon men died in an accident on the sharp curve of SR4 west of the Miller Point road intersection and east of the Weyerhaeuser sorting yard Tuesday. Dead are William M. Dreitlein, 34, of Portland and Richard A. McCown, 31, of Lake Oswego. A third man, G. Norman Hoxsey, 21, address unknown, was taken to Cowlitz General hospital by the Naselle Fire Department ambulance. Extent of his injuries was not known. The accident occurred when the west-bound pickup with a canopy driven by Mr. Dreitlein swung wide on the curve and collided with the big tractor trailer loaded with rock for the K-M hill highway project. The tractor-trailer were owned by S. D. Spenser and Sons of Vancouver and driven by Clair Smith of Kelso. The impact bent the left front wheel of the tractor back. Damage to it was estimated at $8000. The driver was reported as being shook up. The force of the impact demolished the 1967 pickup with debris being widely scatted in the area. The men in the pickup were believed to be enroute to the beach as evidenced by fishing gear. The vehicle had to be pulled apart to get the body of the driver out. DREITLEIN, William M.
