The Wahkiakum County Eagle-December 25, 2008 Obituaries Nellie Elizabeth Davies Nell Elizabeth Williams was born at home on the 13th of June 1926 in Lucas County, Iowa. Her parents were James Benjamin and Elsie Maribah (Harlan) Williams. She died at St. Johns’ Medical Center following a short illness. Nellie grew up in Iowa after graduating from high school, where she attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and received her certificate to teach. She taught school for two years in Iowa. She married Verol Roy Cotter February 2nd, 1946 in Iowa. In 1953 they moved to Hoquiam, Washington, where she was a homemaker. In 1960 due to her husband’s health, the family returned to Iowa. There she began working outside the home as a cook in a restaurant. In 1968 when her son was injured in an automobile accident, she returned to Washington to be with him. While living in Kelso, she bagan working for Cowlitz General Hospital in housekeeping and laundry, but soon after they discover her abilities and she was sent to school and began working in the Admitting Dept. Her husband Verol died in May, 1971. She remarried to Merle Davies in October of 1874. They lived at Campbell’s Corner on the Toutle River. She continued to work until 1977 when she retired. In 1980 when Mount St. Helen’s erupted their home was destroyed. With no hopes of returning to the area, they rented a place to live and spent the next three years returning to their old home and removing every available piece of it to use in their new home. They removed light fixtures, appliances, cupboards, doors and windows. They purchased a home in Rosburg, Washington, and begun remodeling it to suit their needs. Nellie enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was known for her homemade breads, wonderful quilts and fine mens shirts. Survivors include her husband, Merle, at home; daughter Ellen Nichols of Aberdeen; grandchildren Jamie K. Cotter of Kelso, Elisa Anderson, Andrew Kimball, Heidi Mallet and Curtis Nichols all, of Aberdeen; four great grandchildren; her sisters Margaret (Peg) Warbington of Hoquiam and Daisy Parkins of Iowa, and brother Harlan Williams of Iowa. Preceeding her in death are son Curtis Lee Cotter, Brothers Frank, Lewis and Curtis and sister Marion Anderson. Nell lived her life to the fullest, was always building something new out of old of pieces of fabric and loved her husband, children, grandchildren , great-grandchildren and many friends and extended family very much.
