Unknown Newspaper-June 1955 CRABB, Robert Miles Tragedy came to a former Puget Island family this week, as a rolling log took the life of a young man well known and liked in the community. He was a graduate of Wahkiakum High School in 1954, and was killed Tuesday afternoon in a logging accident near Swisshome, Ore. He worked as a choker-setter, and was trying to fasten a cable to a log on a hill when a log above him dislodged and rolled over him. Nineteen years old, Crabb had lived several years on Puget Island, where his parents owned a dairy farm. After selling the farm, Crabb’s father purchased the Cathlamet Meat Market and operated it until selling to Al Freitag. The Crabbs moved to Greenleaf, Ore., about a year ago. Always popular with his classmates, Bob held various class offices while in high school. He participated in all three sports for the local team—playing quarterback in football, guard in basketball and infield and outfield on the Mules baseball teams. A friendly young man with a ready smile, he was active in local 4-H and FFA work. He was born in LaCenter, Wash. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Crabb and his brother, Perry Erwin, all of Greenleaf; two sisters, Bonnie Goble of Greenleaf and Dolores Rees of Vancouver; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Crabb of Yakima and his grandmother, Rose Relyea of LaCenter. Funeral services were held Friday, July 1st at the Vancouver Funeral Chapel. Interment was in the Pioneer Cemetery at Ridgefield, Wash.
