Wahkiakum County Eagle-May 18, 1995 Cook, Joseph John Longtime Skamokawa resident Joseph John Cook, 85, died May 14 in a Cathlamet nursing home. He was born March 15, 1910, in Grays River, to William and Hattie (Urbaniak) Cook, and moved to Skamokawa from Grays River in 1937. He and his wife, Levina, were married that same year. She died in 1990. Mr. Cook farmed dairy and beef cattle for most of his life. He also did logging. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Skamokawa, the Skamokawa Grange, the Long Beach Elks, Friends of Skamokawa, and the Rosburg and Cathlamet senior citizens organizations. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Brockway of Longview; two sons, David Cook of Clovis, Calif., and Mike Bain of Bremerton; three sisters, Helen King of Grays River, Stella Hamrick of Cathlamet and Agnes Simpson of Seattle; a brother, Lester Cook of Skamokawa; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, preceding him in death were four sisters, Ila Johnson, Mary Dass, Sophie Magnuson and Anna Hill; and two brothers, Tony and Stanley Cook. Funeral services were Saturday at the United Methodist church in Skamokawa with Dr. Bob Corlett officiating. Interment and committal, will be at Fern Hill cemetery in Skamokawa.
